( segments )

The (Segments) project is a collaboration between San Francisco based digital sound artist Roddy Schrock and Tokyo based video artist Ludovic Xasdera that took place from January to June 2003. The instructions they created for realization of the piece are thus: one of them should create a 2 minute segment of a specific medium (audio or video) approximately every two weeks and make it available to the other through the internet who then creates the complimentary medium to go along with it. The result is a collection of short segments that explore issues around the passage of time in a visually impressionistic and sonically expressionistic way.

Ludovic Xasdera and Roddy Schrock have worked together previously in live performance in the “Pop! Snap Crackle…” post-digital-circus-maximus tour of the duo Tog with Hypo, Sawako, and friends: Japan, December 2002.

(Segments) received its premiere screening on June 27-29, 2003 in an exhibit at The Living Room gallery in the OmoteSando district of Tokyo. The piece was screened as a DVD and also performed as a live improvisation between the two artists.
